Top Cruising Highlights – Where to Sail in Menorca

A private yacht charter in Menorca opens up a coastline filled with secluded bays, dramatic cliffs, and sparkling blue water. Sail the south coast to find postcard-perfect coves like Cala Mitjana, Cala Macarella, and Cala Turqueta, with soft white sands and shallow, swimmable water.

For wild beauty, head north to Cala Pregonda and Cala Cavalleria, where ochre cliffs meet emerald sea in total seclusion. Sailing from Mahón to Ciutadella gives you the full Menorcan experience—from sunrise swims to sunset cocktails in centuries-old port towns.

Must-See by Yacht – Mahón Harbour

Don’t miss sailing into Mahón (Maó)—Europe’s second-largest natural harbour. Glide past old forts and lighthouses as you enter a historic port lined with pastel buildings, boutique shops, and elegant marina cafés. It’s an unforgettable introduction to yacht charter life in Menorca.

Where to Eat & Drink – Best Waterfront Restaurants in Menorca

Menorca’s cuisine is rooted in tradition, with an emphasis on seafood, seasonal produce, and Mediterranean flavours. For an unforgettable dockside lunch, book a table at Café Balear in Ciutadella, where the lobster stew (caldereta de langosta) is legendary.

In Fornells, Es Cranc is a favourite for locally caught seafood, while Biniarroca near Sant Lluís offers a romantic country garden setting for a refined dinner. And if you love wine, don’t miss Menorca’s growing collection of boutique vineyards—some just a short scooter ride from the port.

Flavours of Menorca – What to Taste on Your Charter

No Menorca sailing holiday is complete without sampling Mahón cheese—a tangy, nutty DOP-certified delight aged in sea salt breezes. Pair it with local sobrasada (a spiced pork spread) and a glass of crisp Menorcan white wine as the sun sets off your stern.

For something sweet, pick up a box of ensaimadas—light, spiral pastries dusted with icing sugar. They’re perfect for breakfast on deck.

Art, Culture & Heritage – Beyond the Beaches

Menorca is steeped in history, from prehistoric Talayotic ruins to elegant 18th-century towns. Step ashore to explore ancient monuments like the Naveta d’Es Tudons or wander the narrow lanes of Ciutadella, where Gothic churches, palaces, and lively plazas await.

In Es Castell, a former British military town, you'll find art galleries and sea-facing terraces that are perfect for a relaxed afternoon drink.

Iconic Swim Spot – Cala Macarelleta

Looking for the perfect swim? Drop anchor at Cala Macarelleta, often hailed as one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain. With its powder-white sand, pine-lined cliffs, and surreal turquoise water, this peaceful cove is the definition of barefoot luxury.

High Tide Recommends

  • Sail at sunrise from Mahón and enjoy breakfast in a sheltered cove like Cala en Porter.
  • Paddleboard through sea caves along the north coast for an adventurous afternoon.
  • Walk a stretch of the Camí de Cavalls, a coastal path that links Menorca’s wildest corners.
  • Book dinner in Ciutadella’s old town, where cobbled streets and soft lighting create a magical end to the day.

For something extra special, ask us to arrange a vineyard tour, horse riding excursion, or private beach picnic to elevate your charter even further.

Plan your Menorca Trip

Getting to your Menorca yacht charter is simple. Menorca Airport (MAH) is just 10 minutes from Mahón and 45 minutes from Ciutadella, with direct flights from across Europe in the summer season.

Most charters begin in Mahón, offering full-service marinas, provisioning options, and easy routes to explore both the north and south coasts. Ciutadella is a quieter, equally charming alternative, especially for those wanting to focus on Menorca’s southern beaches.

We recommend booking 6–12 months in advance for high season, especially if you’re after a crewed catamaran, luxury sailing yacht, or a family-friendly charter with extras like water toys and local guides.

Essential Information for Menorca

Best For:

  • Couples seeking secluded anchorages and romantic beaches
  • Families looking for calm, swimmable coves and nature activities
  • Culture lovers interested in historic sites and authentic cuisine
  • First-time sailors—Menorca’s sailing conditions are beginner-friendly

Weather & Winds:

Expect warm weather (28–30°C) and light southerly winds in summer. The Tramontana wind can affect the north coast during spring and autumn—plan your anchorages accordingly.

Provisioning & Fuel:

Mahón and Ciutadella offer supermarkets, yacht provisioning services, and reliable fuel docks open daily in season. We’re happy to assist with provisioning in advance.

Navigation Notes:

Many of Menorca’s bays have sandy bottoms—perfect for anchoring. In popular spots like Cala Galdana and Macarella, eco-mooring buoys protect the Posidonia seagrass. Use updated marine charts and respect local no-anchor zones.

Respect the Island:

Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and locals take pride in protecting its natural beauty. Keep music low at anchor, avoid littering, and observe marine park guidelines when snorkelling or diving.
