Charting the Course Behind the Scenes
The cost of chartering a yacht in Greece varies depending on the type of yacht, time of year, destination, number of guests and level of service you're looking for.
From independent bareboat sailing holidays to fully crewed luxury catamarans, there are options to suit a variety of budgets.
At High Tide Yacht Charters, we believe in helping you understand the real costs involved before you book. Below, we've provided some practical pricing examples and explained the additional expenses you should consider when planning your Greek yacht charter.
Bareboat Yacht Charter Costs in Greece
A bareboat yacht charter is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Greek islands. You hire the yacht and take responsibility for sailing it yourself, giving you the freedom to create your own itinerary and discover Greece at your own pace.
As a real example, consider a Lagoon 42 catamaran for a week in June, accommodating up to eight guests across four cabins.
The standard weekly charter rate is approximately €7,600, with a 10% promotional discount bringing the price down to €6,840.
For eight guests, that's approximately €855 per person for the entire week, based on the discounted yacht rental price.
In addition to the yacht rental, you should budget for the following:
- Charter package: €290 – Covers basic essentials such as bed linen, towels, cleaning equipment and bin bags.
- Security deposit waiver: €500 – An obligatory charge where this option is selected. The exact arrangement varies between yacht management companies and individual yachts.
- Alternative security deposit: Depending on the yacht, you may be able to pay a higher refundable security deposit, typically held against a credit card in a similar way to hiring a car.
The yacht rental price does not include provisions, fuel or marina and docking fees. These additional expenses will depend on your itinerary, sailing distances, yacht size, time of year and the region you're visiting.
For a group of eight, a bareboat catamaran can offer excellent value, particularly when the cost is shared between guests.
Skippered Yacht Charter Costs in Greece
If you'd prefer someone else to take care of the sailing, you can add a professional skipper to your bareboat charter.
A skipper in Greece typically costs between €1,400 and €1,960 per week, depending on the yacht management company and sailing region.
Your skipper will take care of navigation, sailing and the day-to-day operation of the yacht, while sharing their local knowledge to help you get the most from your Greek island adventure.
The skipper's fee is additional to the yacht rental price. Their meals and any applicable accommodation arrangements should also be discussed before departure.
A gratuity is not included in the skipper's weekly fee and is discretionary.
A skippered charter is an excellent option if you don't have the necessary sailing qualifications, lack experience in the region or simply want to relax and enjoy your holiday without being responsible for the yacht.
Fully Crewed Catamaran Charter Costs in Greece
For a more luxurious experience, a fully crewed catamaran charter offers a completely different level of service.
You'll have a professional captain and additional crew looking after the yacht and your onboard experience, allowing you to spend your time enjoying the islands, swimming in secluded bays and exploring Greece.
Unlike bareboat charters, fully crewed yacht prices vary considerably depending on the yacht, its size, facilities, crew and time of year.

Additional Costs to Consider When Chartering a Yacht in Greece
Whether you choose a bareboat, skippered or fully crewed yacht, it's important to understand the additional costs before confirming your booking.
VAT (Value Added Tax)
VAT is included in the advertised bareboat charter prices quoted in our examples above. For fully crewed yacht charters, VAT is generally payable in addition to the charter fee, at the applicable rate under the charter agreement.
APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance)
On fully crewed yacht charters, an Advance Provisioning Allowance is generally collected before departure. This is an advance payment used to cover the yacht's running expenses during your holiday, including provisions, food, beverages, fuel, marina fees and other agreed expenses.
The captain manages the APA expenditure and provides an account at the end of the charter. Any unused balance is returned, while any additional expenditure is settled separately.
Fuel and Marina Fees
Fuel and marina costs are generally additional expenses on bareboat and skippered charters. The amount you'll spend depends on your yacht, sailing distances, itinerary, time of year and the marinas you choose to visit.
Food and Beverages
Food, drinks and provisions are not included in the bareboat yacht rental price. On fully crewed charters, these are generally purchased using the APA, depending on the charter arrangement.
Security Deposits
Bareboat charters typically require either a refundable security deposit or an alternative security deposit waiver, depending on the yacht and management company. Your broker will explain the available arrangements before booking.
